Playlist for 12/30/12 show (Faves of 2012 edition!)

I have so much to say about all of these songs. It was very exciting to play them all tonight. There are still many more that I couldn't fit into one show so I'll play the rest of them next Sunday.

8:00pm

Grimes: Oblivion (Seeing her play in Hudson in September was cool. But not as fun as thinking about it and getting excited for it all summer.)

Major Lazer: Get Free

Father John Misty: Nancy From Now On (I like watching him perform. And it's not just because of his awesome dance moves. But I like those, too!)

Lower Dens: Brains

Frankie Rose: Gospel / Grace (2012 will be the year of watching Frankie Rose fall in love with Albany. She played here twice and the second time she so easily declared how much she loved playing here. My heart melted from smiling.)

Sean Rowe: Downwind

Babe City: Wait Weight (So happy to have this as a favorite song. The people in this band are the reason I get excited about music in Albany.)

Thee Oh Sees: Flood's New Light

Bahamas: Caught Me Thinking (He does his songs so great live. Like this one on the CBC.)

Alabama Shakes: Hold On

Beach House: Myth

The Parlor: Tear Down The Coastline (They're so great! And they're from here!)

Tanlines: All Of Me

Shearwater: Animal Life (Their show at Helsinki Hudson will be one of my all-time favorites. I liked watching and listening to the lead singer transform himself on stage. His voice became power and it was as if he didn't even have a body...just a voice.)

Horse Feathers: Last Waltz

9:00pm

Cat Power: Manhattan (Had to pick this because it goes in my canon of songs about cities and New York.)

Dr. John: Revolution

Damien Jurado: Working Titles (Sometimes I try not to listen to this album because I get worried that it will make me sad. But it never does. And this: "wrote about me on every new record, i'll show up in a title of your song, i only hope somebody requests it.")

Kelly Hogan: We Can't Have Nice Things (I want to love this whole album. But I mostly love this song.)

Lord Huron: The Man Who Lives Forever (This song makes me think everything is going to be okay. Triumphany.)

Justin Townes Earle: Am I That Lonely Tonight?

Sharon Van Etten: Life of His Own (I'm still wrecked from seeing her perform at Rest Fest. I hope this feeling lasts forever.)

Sun Kil Moon: Young Love

The Tallest Man On Earth: To Just Grow Away

Taken By Trees: Only You

Twin Shadow: Five Seconds (This version is my 2012 slow jam. It really is.)

Poor Moon: Clouds Below

Michael Kiwanuka: Bones (Hearing him talk about this song on the radio is what got me to listen more deeply to the entire album.)

The Antlers: Drift Dive (They were another favorite show at Helsinki Hudson. I listened to them non-stop for two weeks immediately starting after the concert ended. I can still listen and feel like I'm back hearing the songs live.)
